Final & Done Magazine Features

Today, I have finished all my magazine features. I have added many things.

My front cover remained how it was before as there was nothing I could've improved on it. This is how it looks. I am quite happy how it turned out from what it started out as. (The photos are low quality because the files were too big for blogger and so it made it lower quality, the real ones that I have on my computer as very high quality)

I have added the website of the magazine on the Double Page Spread as it looks more professional and promotes the website of it. I am happy with this feature too.

Then lastly, I have changed a lot of things on the contents page. Firstly, I changed it from one page to two pages. I also inserted more photos to make it look more interesting and not text-heavy because that might put off someone from reading it. I added more contents, meaning I also had to update the flat plan of the magazine. Another addition was the editor's welcome to the readers and a letter from a reader. This is probably the feature of my magazine that I like the most.

So this is my magazine finished. From today, I won't be posting any more about this coursework as this was the last task that I had to do for it. However the only other thing I will be posting is going to be the evaluation of my magazine.
As I've said before, I'm very happy how everything turned out, I have gotten comments from several people (including teachers) that it looked very professional. I worked very hard on it.

Front Cover - minor improvement

I have made two minor changes on the front cover which is that I moved the date of the magazine to below the masthead and also moved the cover line under the masthead a bit downwards as it was too close to the name of the magazine.

Improved Front Cover

I have made some improvements to the front cover during today's lesson. I have erased bits of the masthead so the front cover focuses more on the cover star rather than the name of the magazine. Also, for the 'poster special' bit, I have removed some names, and moved the rest of the artists listed to have more space between them. Another thing I've added was the highlight around the star cover line as it wasn't very readable and blended into the background, which was the dotted shirt. I think it looks better this way, but I'm not sure if the colour of the highlight is the right colour because it is the same colour as the blue in the A of the masthead, but seems different as the dotted shirt's colour is different and it crashes with it in my opinion. I might still change things on it.

Finished Front Cover, Contents Page & DPS (still to improve)

During yesterday's lesson, I have finished all 3 features for my magazine. I have changed a few things on them because I wanted them to look well together as in the colour scheme. I also put my front cover star's name on the double page spread as it is a convention of music magazine double page spread features. This is all 3 finished, but I think I am going to change some things on them. For the contents page, I will need more images, so I am going to take some more of at least one more model.

I have looked at Kerrang! contents pages to help me with putting it together.

First Draft of Front Cover & DPS & Contents page

The front cover and double page spread is finished, however I still need to finish the contents page.

Front cover, Q&A, DPS - Work in progress

Today I have done many things. I have finished writing the interview with the cover star for the Double Page Spread.
Then I went back onto my front cover because I forgot to put in gutters on it. I will have to move everything inside those lines. I already started doing that though.
I have also started the Double Page Spread but I left it until I have done the font cover properly.

Front Cover - progress

As yesterday I have done the photography for my magazine, today I put the image on the front cover, but it didn't go with the red of the 3 colour colour scheme, so I had to change it to dark blue. However, I like this colour more and I like how it came out. I have added everything that was missing and this is the done front cover at this minute, but I am most likely to still change things on it.

Magazine Photo Shoot

I was in the studio today and as I downloaded my photos off the camera. This is how my photos look.

Here is a contact sheet of the best photos taken.

Creating the Magazine - Work In Progress

In today's lesson, I started making the front cover, but I haven't taken the pictures yet for my magazine because I am doing it today. I am still going to add more cover lines but this is what I could do in lesson. It took me a very long time as every line of text was a different layer and when I had to move it around, it took a long time. The colour scheme might change, I am thinking of doing dark blue instead of red. However, this is what I've done in today's lesson and I have my photo shoot later on today.

Camera Induction notes

How to use the studio & camera
  • 3 point lighting - for high key lighting photos
  • JPEG / RAW file - jpeg takes less space but raw can be edited in more detail
  • Nikon D7100 - camera I am going to use
  • black & white = monochrome on camera
  • transmitter - controls when lights flash through signals
  • softbox - boxes to soften/diffuse lights coming from the actual light
  • dial on left hand side - power of light
  • set lights on 3 so they are not too bright or dark
  • when done press green light to release charge built up in light, then immediately switch off in plug
  • the model should be at least 5 foot away from backdrop
  • lights: -hairline light=behind the model on the left/right, create separation to hit back of head, separates subject from backdrop; -key light=on the left front of model, most important light; -fill light=on the right front of the model, knock the other light's shadow out
  • colour = standard/vivid on camera

Double Page Spread Article Draft - Work In Progress

In today's lesson, I started drafting the article for the Double Page Spread I am going to make. It is going to be an interview but it started out as a Question and Answer feature. I need to change some things on it and I also have to finish it, but I am writing this post to show my progress in today's lesson.
